History of Poker

The four most admired types of poker nowadays are Texas Holdem, Seven-Card Stud, Omaha Hi-Lo and Omaha. 
The popularity of the game Texas Hold em has grown considerably in last few years. Poker itself started from a bluffing game in France called Poque. The French had brought this game into New Orleans.  It was here where it became very popular and changed into the game that we now call poker. There is no clear confirmation of this, but it is rumoured that the Texas Hold em form of poker was actually first played in a town called Robstown in Texas in the early 1900s.

In the year 1958, a Texas gambler named Doyle Brunson united with two other poker legends to be called “Sailor” Roberts and “Amarillo Slim.” They then became a very fearsome poker team. They travelled around Texas and the Southwest of America, discovering and crushing other poker games whenever they were able to.  This generally increased their skills at the No Limit Hold em game. During this time, they dealt out a lot of Hold em hands physically, simply so they could establish the regularity of particular holdings winning out over the certainty of others. Doyle wrote the part on No Limit Hold em for which he explained why Hold em is the best poker game.
In the year 1999, a television program in Britain named “Late Night Poker” started using a new form of technology to put poker on the television.  In this program viewers were able to see every card the player had as their hand progressed. This notion revolutionized the poker game and led it to a sudden increase of both televised poker and the poker game in general. A short while after this, The Travel Channel and the World Poker Tour used the modernised technology to bring this televised poker to thousands of living rooms across the United States.

An accountant called Chris Moneymaker from Tennessee, appeared out of the blue in 2003 and won the Main Occasion of the World Poker Series. He arrived there for just $40, taking the benefit of the “satellite” tournaments which gave seats to the bigger tournaments for their prize. He won his seat as well as the championship, using the game No Limit Texas Hold em.
Nowadays the Texas Hold em game is the most admired poker game within the United States of America, if not over the world. A lot of people actually play in the World Poker Series No Limit Hold em game and a lot more will play online or simply watch it on the television.
